Dr. Siti Ruhaini Dzuhayatin

Dr. Siti Ruhaini Dzuhayatin, MA is a former Chairperson of the Independent Permanent Human Rights Commission (IPHRC), the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), 2012-2014 and reelected as the Commissioner of the Commission from 2014-2018.

Currently she is the Vice-Rector for Student and External Relation Affairs and senior lecturer on the Sociology of Law in the Faculty of Syariah and Law at the Islamic State University ‘ Sunan Kalijaga” Yogyakarta, Indonesia.

She earned her honor degree on Syariah Law in the university where she eventually serves as a lecturer, gained Master degree in Social Theory at Monash University Australia and Doctorate degree of Sociology from Gadjah Mada University, Yogyakarta, Indonesia.

Joined many short courses such as workshop on Human Rights Documentation in Manila, the Philippines (1996) the Fellowship on Women’s Empowerment from McGill University (1997), Short Course on Islam and Human Rights, Emory University, Atlanta, USA (2003), Short Course on Women and Conflict Resolution, Ulster University, Northern Ireland and British Council in Manchester, UK (2006). Head of Center for Women’s Studies in her university (2002-2007), Initiating the First Women’ Crisis Center in Indonesia (1994- 20145), Advisory board of Center for Human Right Studies (2004-2015), Director of Kalijaga Institute for Justice (2014). Dr. Siti is actively promoting women’s rights and human rights with various stakeholders: Judges, police, university lecturers, teachers and Islamic based organizations.

Her extensive academic works and social activism accorded her with the Ministerial Award from the Ministry of Religious Affairs for the best lecturer of the Islamic universities in Indonesia in 2010. She is married with two daughters.
